My mother has always been a huge fan of Garfield. Growing up, I remember she had random strips of the comic taped to things, and all manner of memorabilia she'd collected over the years featured in her private spaces throughout the house. Being that my mother was so influential on my tastes, I developed a fondness for the sarcastic orange fluff-ball myself. Now, as an adult Millennial working a mundane 8:00-4:30 office job, I recently had an epiphany that Garfield is totally my spirit animal. Everything from his need for lots of sleep, to his antics with food, to his disdain for exercise and being fat, he's oh-so-relatable when it comes to the daily grind of adulting and the first-world problems we face. But not only is Garfield awesome, his buddy Jon has some relatable traits & moments, too, with his social awkwardness, pathetic failures, mood swings, and debilitating inability to realize just how lame he really is.
